The Chatyn (Khatyn) Memorial

“It’s so peaceful here”- said Jimmy, as we were walking around Chatyn.

May 9 is our Victory Day. A day we celebrate, and pay our respect to our soldiers, and people. While on the trip we went to pay our respect at the Chatyn memorial.

A memorial for all those villages in Belarus that after the German invasion during the Second World War no longer exist …

And the millions of people who lost their lives during those 3 years, almost 1 million a year …

Chatyn: 22 March 1943, 60 houses, 149 people, among them 75 children, were burned to death in a shed …
