One year anniversary gift guide – Paper

When it comes to anniversary gifts, it can be especially difficult to know where to start. Your wedding is a momentous occasion and your celebration of it is an important reminder of what brought you together in the beginning. However, that sort of pressure does not make buying a gift any easier, especially on your first anniversary. Thankfully, history has got you covered and can provide a little bit of inspiration.

Traditional anniversary gifts have remained a staple amongst couples throughout since the Middle Ages. Setting a gifting theme for each year of marriage helps narrow down your shopping list and find something meaningful for your partner. Themes include copper, wood, silk, and even diamonds when you reach your 60th anniversary.

For year one, the theme is paper. While the first anniversary may be the most daunting, it’s a wonderful milestone and hopefully this gift-giving guide will alleviate some of the stress and find the perfect paper themed gift for your partner.

  1. Q+A A Day Journal
This lovely journal is filled with 365 questions, one for each day, that you and your partner answer together. What makes it special, beyond reflecting together, is that the journal is meant to be filled out over the course of three years. The questions repeat, but you can compare your new answers to year’s prior.
  2. Vintage Maps
Think perhaps of your favorite vacation or the place you met. Finding a vintage map of a special location you and your partner share is a daily reminder that special moment in time, whatever that place represents to you as a couple.
  3. Tickets
Maybe a ticket to a concert, ballet, or even a plane ticket! While a lot of tickets have since been digitized, it is still a great way to go out and experience something new with your partner. Be sure to save the tickets and get them framed as a special memento.
  4. Song Sound Wave Print
The song that played during your first dance is etched into your memory as one of your first moments as a married couple. You can send that song to the printmaker and get a sound wave made from it, as a visual representation of that perfect tune.
  5. Wedding Photo Album
The art of photo printing has been lost to Facebook albums and Instagram feeds, but there is something special about holding a book full of photos. Create a photo album of your wedding day so that you have something to flip through together on a cozy night in. As wedding photographers, we would be silly not to suggest it!

We hope these gift ideas inspired you to find a unique paper present. Oh, and of course, don’t forget a card!

Love the idea of giving a paper gift. My husband gave me a Dreamlines sketch of my wedding dress. The detail was just amazing! I highly suggest.
