Romantic, fun, timeless!

Date Ideas for Your First Year of Marriage

As we’ve posted our wedding anniversary celebration, we realized that there is a feeling of almost being paralyzed, post wedding, when you have said your “I do’s” and there is no wedding planning to do. Though the big day may have passed, it doesn’t mean you can’t keep celebrating your marriage, especially in the first year. It’s important to still treat each other to dates as you embark onto the next adventure, so we’ve put together a list of date ideas to keep your first year of marriage just as special as the day you met.

Weekend Road Trip

If you’re based in New England, it’s so easy to go explore another state for a weekend of even just the day! Driving a few hours takes you to a whole new place, maybe somewhere you’ve never been together. Whether you end up in Portland, ME, Burlington, VT, or even on the beaches of New Hampshire, pack up the car, create a great car jams playlist, and hit the road!

Volunteer Together

Maybe there is a local non-profit in your neighborhood or a cause that you’re both passionate about where you can sign up to volunteer. Places like the MSPCA, community garden, or even a food bank are great places to volunteer and give back in the process! Working together on something you care about a couple is a great way to spend the day.

New Restaurants

While dinner dates are pretty common, you can keep it exciting by creating a list of restaurants in your neighborhood that are new or places you’ve always wanted to try. By exploring a few new restaurants, you get to learn more about your neighborhood and try some delicious new food along the way! What is more romantic than a good meal anyhow?

Book Swap

If you want to spend a lazy Sunday in, why not trade favorite books? Get cozy on the couch with a couple of blankets and read for the afternoon. Keep the phones off and check in every few chapters to discuss your favorite characters or maybe a new word that you’ve discovered!

Take a Class

Is there a skill you’ve both wanted to learn? Whether it’s cooking, woodworking, a new language, or even a public lecture at a local university, learning together is a great way to start a new project together and keep each on track to master whatever you’ve set out to learn!

There is many other great date ideas out there, but regardless of what you decide to do, keep it fun! You’ve got a lifetime of adventures to go; so don’t put too much pressure on your dates to make them spectacularly over the top. As long as you’ve got each other, it’s smooth sailing.
